I know there are a few different textures with kanekalon, but what is the best choice for a synthetic dread installation?

It really doesn't matter to be honest. Some people think the kinkier texture is easier to backcomb, some people feel that the silkier looks more like their natural hair. In the end, I think they all look great. It really is just a matter of preference.

I am sorta bummed, but I'm not throwing in the towel before I've even started! I went to buy my hair locally (No returns or exchanges, of course) & when I got home, I realized the packs the clerk suggested when I said what I was doing aren't kanekalon, but just say 100% synthetic. I figure I'm just going to try it anyway because I can't think of anything else to do with all this hair, but I read it won't seal properly like kk does. Are there tricks or methods that work to seal this type of jumbo braid, & maybe the other site just lacked the necessity to mother some invention? I hope so!

If it's a higher temperature fiber, it will still seal, it just needs extra heat. Check out this video for sealing higher temperature fibers https://www.doctoredlocks.com/synth-dreads-shapeshifter/
