Prebonded hair comes in a variety of shapes is used for several types of installation methods. There are two main types of prebonded extension hair (which is also called pretipped hair): V-tip (or U-tip) and I-tip.
V-tip is also called nail tip hair because it looks like a little fingernail made out of fusion protein. This tip style is used for fusion methods. The natural hair and the extension tip are heated together. The fusion protein liquifies and bonds the strands together.
I-tip which is also called shoelace or stick tip is used for many different methods. It can be used for fusion just like v-tip hair if additional fusion protein is added. Many stylists prefer I-tip hair for fusion because it allows them to control the amount of fusion adhesives for each bond. Also, strands of differing colors can be set side by side for a chunkier highlight effect.
I-tips are also used for Shrinkies and Linkies as well as other microtube and bead applications.
