Synopsis: Love the look of dreadlocks, but have a commitment phobia? Get the look minus the dedication!
I have always been fond of the dreadlocked look. I love their movement and the ease in which you can style them before you head out the door to start your day. However, I can not commit to one hair style! The idea of dreading my own hair and being STUCK with one style indefinitely is out of the question!
Never in my wildest dreams did I think to find dreads on my head, but a dread weave made it possible. This style allows for a temporary and realistic dread look with no commitment necessary.
A dread weave consists of rows of wefted loose hair and rows of wefted dreadlock extensions. These are sewn in to the natural hair. If you are familiar with a Linkies Track Weave, this is similar except that loose and dreaded portions will alternate throughout the placement on the head. This allows for a seamless integrated style that can last up to 3 months!
Maintenance of a dread weave is also much less commitment than natural dreadlocks. I use a dry shampoo on my roots and witch hazel soaked cotton balls (which can be found at your local drug store) to absorb the excess oil from my scalp. An occasional wash of my bangs and top hairs kept them nice and neat. Styling was simple. Light backcombing and some hair spray covered the tracks perfectly. I could tie my hair up, half up, pigtails, or just leave it down - so easy!
Dread weaves are the perfect way to enjoy dreadlocks. I can have dreads for a week or 3 months at a stretch! No commitment required!
