Synopsis: A portable dreadlock station can make your long car ride into a productively hairy experience.
Making your own set of synthetic dreadlocks can be a long and tedious task. If I am working on a set for myself, I often find myself procrastinating. I come up with anything excuse to push off finishing them. Let's face it, I'm a procrastinator and always have been. Planning on making a set of Knotty No Seals (fancy dreadlocks that are wrapped to create massive texture) while on vacation was probably a bad idea from the beginning.
I started off with fire and gusto and had every intention to get my dread set done quickly. Playing Wii, going to the beach, and enjoying the sun seemed like much more exciting options than slaving over synthetic hair. Three weeks had gone by since I had started these bad boys and I had only managed to crank out about half a set. I knew I wanted to have this set completed before I made it back home. I also knew that I had a 26 hour car ride ahead of me. What’s a girl to do? Get creative!
With a hanger, some string, and my passenger side visor, I created myself an impromptu dread station on the go. I used a hanger tied to the visor to create a bar for my fiber. Extending the visor allowed for a nice backcombing angle. It wasn't the prettiest thing, but it served it's purpose.
Once the poofy backcombing was complete, wrapping the texture for the knotty no seals was a piece of cake. My long car ride allowed me to make up for my procrastination! When I arrived to my final destination they were finished and ready for installation!
Making dreads with a solid set up is ideal. But when need be, you can always improvise and take them to-go!
